Texas attorney general sues college student for spamming

I've heard of college kids getting busted for dealing marijuana or downloading music, but this one has got to put a serious stain on your "permanent record." Ryan Pitylak, a 22-year-old student at the University of Texas, was sued by Austin Attorney General Greg Abbott today, for spamming. Abbott also named Mark Trotter of Encinitas, California.

According to the lawsuit, Pitylak and Trotter control three Nevada companies, PayPerAction, Leadplex L-L-C and Leadplex Incorporated, all companies that deal in porn and advertise through spam. Abbott's action alleges the pair violated both the Texas Electronic Mail and Solicitation Act and the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, in addition to CAN-SPAM.
