Yeah, but they're still charging an outrageous $60 a year just to be able to use their program to tap into their email servers. Amazing... Feed the machine folks, feed the machine.

3. Without any warning they have simply cut off any use of hotmail via outlook.
I have allways used outlook, to read my email, whether coming from hotmail or other accounts.
Suddenly it all went wrong a few days ago. It took me a while to figure the problem out.
First some of my messages were not leaving the computer any more.
For several days when I clicked on some incoming mail the sender's name would disappear and become "msn-hotmail". Instead of his/her message I would get I would get a message asking me to link to the msn site where I end up in a dead-end "this page cannot be displayed".
Now all my hotmail archives have disappeared because I was relying on Outlook to save them.
The only nessages I was able to retrieve are the latest which I managed to open via msn-hotmail.
And oh I forget, they now advertise that I can start using Outlook again ( a Microsoft product I paid for) to open my hotmails but I need to pay extra!
I am FURIOUS!

4. It's been a tough haul to add subscription services to anything. Consumers have a hard time with the concept. I suppose someobody has to keep trying until something sticks.

MS Outlook is a good tool but I question using hotmail anyhow. I had an account pre-MS days and still maintain one for MSN Meseenger but never for mail. I have a Gmail account I use but would never POP it or download it, I have real mail accounts for stuff I want to come down.

Pay $60 a year? I don't think people like the fee for hotmail anyhow.

5. I think some of the naysayers of this may be overlooking a valuable feature for the business warrior. Outlook Live lets you have a Hotmail account (not a bad thing to have for online ecommerce), but more importantly it apparently lets you have your other normal POP accounts (read business, etc.) all on the same Outlook Live account. So no matter where you are, what computer you're using, you'll be in sync regarding folders, messages, contacts, tasks, calendar, etc. Maybe I'm reading this wrong...but I don't think so.

6. Just a comment on Pascale's post.
I also use hotmail via Outlook and I have not had any problems with my email delivery or anything that would force me to subscribe to any paid service. I already use a version of outlook online service(exchange)and it has been very valuable to my business being able to access data anywhere. This comes at a cost (6.99/month for 1GB space). 1 GB is already sufficient since my heavily used local copy of outlook is not larger 130MB, and that includes years of stored email records.
Some of the posts here are from users missing the point. This is not just email. If you are looking for just email this is not for you, but if you are looking for a way to have access to your entire data stored in outlook from multiple locations, by perhaps more than one person (multi-location office) than this is a great product.
Remember one thing; no one is being forced to buy anything, if you don't want it, don’t buy it. It works just like the daily special at your local restaurant; you don’t have to eat it.

7. I'm already using that service with the 2 gb of space on hotmail through outlook
its an extra for subscribing to verizon dsl, you can download an outlook connector, and they upgrade your mailbox for you

8. Get a decent paid mail service like IMAP4all, Fusemail, etc.. and use IMAP. Makes allot more sense
